Remember those Sharpie Tie Dye T-Shirts we showed you how to make in November? (Here’s the link!)
Let’s take that project one step further and transform it into a tote bag!
T-Shirt Transformation – Create a Tote Bag.
Cut the sleeves and neck off of your t-shirt.
With a ruler, measure 3” from the bottom and draw a line across the t-shirt. With your ruler, draw vertical lines from the 3” line to the hem. Cut along those lines to create fringe.
Holding down one edge of each fringe, pull the fabric tightly.
Tie each fringe pair together in a knot. As you tie them together the fringes will help close up the bottom of the bag, but there will be holes between each set of tied fringes. To fix this, just lay out your tied fringes (one fringe going up out of the knot and one fringe going down out of the knot), then tie the “top” fringe from one pair to the “bottom” fringe from the pair next to it.
Take the sleeves that you cut off in step 1 and cut off their hems. Pull the top of each remaining sleeve together and tie each off with one of the hems. Knot.
Voila! From t-shirt to tote – super easy, super fun, super cute!
