Attention all you future fashion and home décor designers!
Create your own original fabric with a set of “Fabric Fun Dye Sticks”. They are inexpensive and easy to use. They are made by Pentel and retail for $4.95 for a set of 15 assorted colors.
You will need one set of dye sticks, some white cotton fabric (you can buy plain white placemats and pillowcases at any home store for under $5,) clean sheets of copy paper, and an iron.
Draw your pattern onto your fabric, place a sheet of copy paper between your hot iron and your fabric and hold for 20 – 30 seconds until the dye sets. (Tip: you may need to use a few sheets of clean paper to ensure that your dye does not smear!)
Once you’ve created your fabric, you can use it to create one of the fun DIY projects from Appel Farm’s Pinterest site. Click here to try making a place mat clutch, a pillow case, designer doll dresses, a trivet, or an iPhone case.
