Gluten Free Menu Debuts At Appel Farm Arts Camp

Gluten Free Menu Debuts At Appel Farm Arts Camp

For kids with food allergies, time away from home can induce anxiety at mealtime, especially for those with gluten allergies. The worry about what to eat, and if a child will feel segregated from the mainstream, may stop families from sending their child to a sleepaway camp.

Appel Farm Arts Camp has just announced a brand-new menu with gluten-free options that give kids a chance to relax, be themselves, and enjoy an overnight camp experience without worrying about eating the wrong thing.  The camp chef has been recently certified in gluten-free meal-planning, and gluten-free products have been ordered for the summer program that starts June 24 and runs through August 17.

Tasty rice pasta, a daily hot soup, healthy quinoa and gluten-free bread and cereal are staples on the menu.  Delicious chicken nuggets, wraps, bagels and so much more will make the dining experience fun. Gluten-free desserts will also be served, and kids can bring their own foods to supplement if desired.
Appel Farm Arts Camp also accommodates those allergic to dairy.  Soy milk, tofu, beans, soy nut butter, fruit, granola, seeds, and nuts all add up to a healthy diet for everyone and are available daily.  The bountiful fresh salad bar is presented every day and is allergy-friendly. No nuts or cheese appear there. One table is designated as peanut-free.

Sample dishes from Chef Irene’s kitchen:

  • Sweet Potato and Lentil Stew
  • Creole Veggies on Basmati Rice
  • Pepperonata on Polenta
  • Vegetable Quinoa
  • Eggplant Parmesan Stacks
  • Vegetarian Curry
  • Vegetarian Paella
  • Quinoa Pilaf with Dried Fruit and Pine Nuts

“We care about every facet of a child’s development, and that includes health and well-being,” noted Camp Director Cori Solomon.  “The new gluten-free menu is just one of the ways we ensure that all campers have a great summer experience.”
