Last week, Green Corps majors were treated to a special, homegrown and home cooked “farm to table” lunch with Peimin and Albert Appel!
After presenting a bouquet of wildflowers, campers were seated at a beautiful spread featuring green themed plates and bright red crystal drinking glasses.
On the menu were potatoes, green beans, and cucumbers from the Appels’ garden, plus fresh eggs from the Appel hens. Chicken was the main dish. Everything was prepared by Mrs. Appel herself. Everyone agreed unanimously that it was one of the tastiest lunches ever. Dessert was vanilla ice cream with chocolate candies.
Conversation flowed easily as campers and staff shared stories about home made ice cream experiments, picky eating habits, foreign languages, kerchiefs as headwear, and personal dining mishap confessions.
After lunch campers were given a tour of the Appels’ beautiful home. Lastly the robotic ping pong table was turned on, serving ping pong balls at a breathtaking pace, and resulting in many giggles, followed by a ping pong ball hunt.
After saying thanks and helping to clear the dishes, campers walked to back to camp for rest hour with their bellies and hearts full to the brim.
