Evening Activities are a time when the entire camp comes together just to have fun! They are different every night and include activities like Scavenger Hunts, Bunk Activities, Campfires, Dances, Workshops, Carnivals, and Performances.
On the first night of camp, we have the Camp Welcome Extravaganza, an extravagant, fun night of introductions and performances, and a great beginning for our campers! Then, the second night is all about bunk spirit for the Scavenger Hunt! Each bunk dresses up in bunk costumes, and runs all over camp, learning about each space, and playing get-to-know-you games with their bunkmates. It’s a great way to learn your way around camp while learning more about your new friends!
Some nights, campers will do a fun activity with the campers and counselors in their bunk. Activities like making a bunk music video, designing and decorating matching bunk t-shirts, writing and performing bunk skits, and playing camp games like Freedom and Golfball really helps campers get to know their bunkmates, and start to make those life-long friendships!
Everyone loves to sit arond a campfire, singing songs and eating s’mores, and Appel Farmers are no different. Except we are, and so our campfires are Acoustic Campfires! Acoustic Campfires start with fun repeat-after-me songs like Boom Chicka Boom andGoin’ on a Bear Hunt, and then we move on to acoustic performances by our campers and staff. It’s one more venue for performances. With s’mores.Click here to tell us your favorite campfire song, and we will add it to our Camp 2016 songbook!
Do you like to dance? Show your skills on the dance floor at the Dance and Dinner Dance! The Dance during week two of each session is a fun, informal dance with a fun theme like Alien Invasion or Hawaiian Luau. During week three, campers are invited to dress up for the fancier Dinner Dance. Campers are seated with their friends for a delicious meal, waited on (hand and foot) by their counselors, and then they dance the night away to popular songs and camp favorites. Every dance at Appel Farm ends with everyone linking arms, and singing Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
After Visiting Day, filled with family and friends from home, campers dive back into camp at the Canival! Each summer, our staff comes up with new and exciting booths and activities for the Carnival, but this traditional event always has fun and funny booths like Face Painting, Balloon Animals,Trash Can Pillow Fight, the Marriage and Adoption Booths, Arts Trivia, and an Appel Farm favorite, Psyku with our Head Counselor, Sarv.
Campers often find it difficult to narrow their interests down to just four main activities, so the Workshop program at Appel Farm offers campers a way to dabble, to try activities outside of their majors and minors. Offered one evening a week, and all day on Sundays, campers choose an hour-long lesson in one of our core programs. Some past workshops have included Stage Combat, Drum Circle, Papermaking, Pin Hole Cameras, Yoga, Water Ballet, Claymation, Songwriting, Irish Dancing, Rocket Building, Audition Techniques, and more!
We also have lots of performances and exhibitions, after all, we are an arts camp! Every other week, campers perform in the Friday Night Concert, a long-standing tradition of informal, camper created performances and exhibitions for the camp community. We also have Staff Concerts, Camper Counselor Concerts, Guest Artists, and formal performances by each major at the end of the session. And the audience at Appel Farm is the most supportive, enthusiastic, jumping to their feet, and jumping up to hug you audience in the world. It feels great to share your hard work and talent, after weeks of learning new things and honing your skills, and hear the thunderous applause of your bunkmates, counselors, instructors, and the whole Appel Farm family!
