#TBT to Freedom
This picture always makes ussmile. Mostly because we love May, and also because it makes us think about the freedom of running across the camp with your pillow and a stuffed elephant, smiling, on your way to meet your friends at the theater to cuddle up and watch The Sandlot, or Tangled, or Toy Story…now that’s freedom.
We also like this picture. We love that Appel Farm encourages the absolute best dancing in the world, like hands up, surrounded by all of your friends, not a care in the world, laughing and dancing without abandon dancing…that’s another kind of freedom.
And what about these two ice cream eaters? They are free from napkins, for sure! Striking out on their own, but with a buddy, learning to spend their canteen money wisely, deciding how they want to spend Beach Day, and wiping their faces only when they are uncomfortable with the messiness of the ice cream….so never.
This is another good one! There are lots of middle school girls who don’t have the freedom to engage in silly, ridiculous behavior without worrying that someone will call them out and make fun of them. We love that our campers jump right in and play Donkey at the campfire in front of the whole camp, which is just the silliest and ridiculous thing you can do.
What would all this freedom be worth if we couldn’t use it to figure out who we are, express ourselves, and make art? Luckily we don’t have to answer that question. Nor do we have to make art if we would rather make that. Or robots.
